Value added created in agriculture and food chain
Definition
This indicator shows the total Gross Value Added (GVA) (at basic prices), defined as the value of output less the value of intermediate consumption, for the primary production, food manufacturing, food distribution and food service activities.
GVA Agriculture = Total GVA + Subsidies – Taxes
VA Food processing = VA Manufacture of food + VA Manufacture of beverages + VA Manufacture of tobacco
VA Food retail = VA Agents involved in the sale + VA Wholesale + VA Retail sale in non-specialised stores + VA Retail sale in specialised stores + VA Retail sale via stalls and markets of food
VA services = VA Food and beverage service activities
The graph also includes the share of the primary production (agriculture) on the total value added generated by the different participants of the food chain.
Share = GVA Agriculture / (GVA Agriculture + Food processing + Food retail and services)
