Farmland birds index
Definition
The Farmland Bird Index is a composite index that measures the rate of change in the relative abundance of common bird species that are dependent on farmland.
The index is calculated with reference to the base year 2000, set at 100. Trend values express the overall population change over a period of years.
The index for each Member State is calculated based on the national species list. An index is first calculated for each species independently. The indices for the set of species are then combined on a geometric scale to create a multi-species aggregate index. National indices are compiled by each Member State using common software and methodology.
