Age structure

Definition 

This indicator refers to the age structure of the EU population on 1st of January of any given year. It consists of 2 sub-indicators:

 

  1. total population by broad age groups (less than 15 years / from 15 to 64 years / 65 years or over)
  2. population by broad age groups (less than 15 years / from 15 to 64 years / 65 years or over) in predominantly rural regions.

Comments/caveats

The age structure by type of region has been calculated using the Commission's urban-rural typology, which classifies NUTS 3 regions into predominantly rural, intermediate and predominantly urban.
